CO2 laser is the correct technology for acrylic cutting. CO2 laser wavelengths (10.6 micrometres) are efficiently absorbed by acrylic, producing a clean, flame-polished, transparent edge finish. Fiber laser wavelengths (1.06 micrometres) are not absorbed by transparent acrylic and cannot cut it reliably. Using a fiber laser on acrylic produces poor results — discoloured, rough, or incomplete cuts. Signageer uses a dedicated CO2 laser for acrylic and MDF cutting, separate from the fiber laser used for metal cutting.
